TT4.0 Key Facts
TT4.0 delivers continuous real-time positioning with an accuracy of up to ±2 metres, providing precise location data for personnel, vehicles, and mobile assets. This enables improved operational awareness, faster response times, and greater control across underground mining operations.
A single TAG can be used across multiple Becker solutions, including TT4.0, PDS4.0, and UCAS. Support for mixed environments with PDT TAGs, TCT TAGs, and AeroScout-compatible TAGs allows mines to modernize their infrastructure step by step while protecting existing investments.
TT4.0 connects directly to smartflow®, Becker Mining Systems' centralized monitoring and control platform. Real-time positioning data is combined with information from communication, automation, safety, and energy systems to provide a complete operational overview.
The TT4.0 infrastructure combines intelligent TAG Readers and powerful LineHeads to provide reliable coverage over long distances. Self-diagnostics, scalable architecture, and data buffering during network interruptions ensure dependable performance in demanding underground environments.
TT4.0 not only determines locations but also enables bidirectional communication between infrastructure, personnel, and vehicles. Visual and acoustic notifications, alarm transmission, and beacon functionality help improve situational awareness and operational safety.
Precise real-time positioning provides the foundation for future automation. TT4.0 supports applications such as traffic light control, gate and barrier management, ventilation control, and other automated workflows based on live location data.
Designed for a wide variety of mines and their specific needs, TT4.0 can be expanded as operational requirements evolve. Additional TAG Readers, LineHeads, and optional integrations allow the system to grow alongside the mine without requiring a complete infrastructure replacement.
TT4.0 is part of the Becker digital ecosystem, working seamlessly alongside solutions such as PDS4.0, smartcom, and smartflow. Together, these systems create a connected mining environment where data flows securely between safety, communication, automation, and operational platforms.
How it works
TT4.0 combines TAGs, TAG Readers, LineHeads, and smartflow® to provide continuous real-time positioning underground:
TAG Readers detect TAGs and determine their distance. The LineHead processes this information and determines the position of each TAG before transmitting the data to smartflow® for centralized visualization and control.
The TT4.0 positioning process:
1. TAGs
Personnel, vehicles, and assets are equipped with TAGs that can be detected by the TT4.0 infrastructure.
2. TAG Readers
Installed throughout the mine, TAG Readers detect TAGs, determine their distance, and enable bidirectional communication and local signaling.
3. LineHead
The LineHead collects and processes data from the TAG Readers to determine TAG positions with an accuracy of up to ±2 m.
4. smartflow®
Positioning data is transmitted to smartflow®, where locations can be visualized, monitored, and managed centrally together with data from other Becker systems.

A key advantage of TT4.0 is its seamless integration into the Becker ecosystem. A single TAG can be used across multiple Becker systems, including TT4.0, PDS4.0, and UCAS. Support for PDT TAGs, TCT TAGs, and AeroScout-compatible TAGs allows mines to expand or modernize their infrastructure step by step, protecting existing investments while creating a fully connected ecosystem.
This approach reduces complexity, simplifies deployment, and lowers total cost of ownership while maximizing operational synergy.
TAG Readers are installed throughout the mine to detect TAGs, determine their distance using RF Time-of-Flight, and enable bidirectional communication with personnel and vehicles. The TT4.0 LineHead connects and processes the data from the TAG Readers, determines the real-time position of TAGs, and communicates the information to smartflow®.
Together, they form the infrastructure that makes precise real-time positioning underground possible.
Integration with PDS4.0
TT4.0 and PDS4.0 complement each other through a shared infrastructure. The TT4.0 network transports information between systems, while PDS4.0 leverages this to enhance operational awareness. Powerful features include entry restrictions, bidirectional communication, and section-based notifications.
smartflow® Integration
smartflow® serves as the intelligent interface above ground. Real-time positioning data is displayed alongside information from other Becker systems, creating a single operational view for:
